Managed cloud provider Novosco has secured a contract worth up to €1.25 million to provide Cork County Council with a new IT infrastructure solution for its 1,500 IT users and services a population of almost 400,000.

Novosco managing director Patrick McAliskey said: “The council went to tender for a complete infrastructure refresh that would meet current and future needs over the coming five years. They also sought invitations for innovation in the areas of disaster recovery, backup and hosted infrastructure to allow them to manage their critical data onsite, while also allowing them the flexibility of hosted or cloud solutions and services into the future, should they require them.”

“At the core of our solutions is a new private cloud infrastructure based on EMC and VMware technologies. The solution has been specifically designed to allow for exponential growth in Cork’s data. We are also providing an innovative hybrid cloud offering, which allows for nominated disaster recovery and infrastructure services to be migrated to the cloud in order to protect key business services. All of this is uniquely provided and managed by Novosco across multiple data centres in Ireland to offer a comprehensive managed hybrid cloud.

“The partnership approach between Novosco and Cork County Council has the added benefit of taking pressure off Cork’s infrastructure, and freeing up their IT staff to work on services and projects that are more in line with the Council’s corporate and ICT strategies.”

Cork County Council Divisional Manager James Fogarty said: “This is a natural evolution of technology and the Council’s requirements that will cope with the demands for increased data storage and protection while improving disaster recovery and resilience into the future. The hybrid cloud offering from Novosco offers us a comprehensive framework and architecture to address current and future demands while allowing us the required flexibility to take advantage of the benefits of cloud services where we consider them to the advantage of the Council. This investment supports the Council’s strategy of improved and new customer online and digital services over the coming years on an as needed basis.”

Novosco employs 120 people across offices in Dublin, Cork Belfast and Manchester. It was recently listed in Deloitte’s Fast 50 Ireland for the 15th year in a row.
