The latest version of Novell’s directory service, eDirectory 8.6, helps system administrators link all types of networks by centralising the management of users, access rights, platforms and network resources.
The latest version has a number of new enhancements including improved scalability and reliability, the ability to automatically create directory groups according to any directory attribute, a persistent search function and live continuous backup.
Novell has also launched eGuide 2.0, a Web application that allows users to access data stored in eDirectory and other local directory access protocol (LDAP) compliant data sources such as names, phone e-mail addresses. Once users locate a person, they can launch communications such as e-mail and instant messaging from within Novell eGuide. The product supports both anonymous and authenticated modes and allows different levels of access based on a user’s profile.
