Michael McGrath has resigned as interim Government CIO since this interview was conducted.

Michael McGrath has resigned his position as interim Government chief information officer (GCIO).

McGrath had been appointed as interim GCIO in early 2014, after the departure of the first GCIO, Bill McCluggage, initially for a six-month term.

An official from the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (PER) confirmed McGrath’s departure to TechPro magazine today.

McGrath will be finishing at the end of the month, and the official said that the position of GCIO would likely be advertised shortly.

Despite putting out a strong strategy document for the future ICT direction of the public service, McGrath never lost the interim status in the role.

Reliable sources outside of the department have reported to TechPro that McGrath is taking advantage of other opportunities.
