Leading security technology company McAfee has appointed Commtech to distribute its full portfolio of software and hardware for both the consumer and corporate markets in Ireland.

Under the deal, Commtech joins McAfee’s SecurityAlliance global partner programme with Value-Added Distributor (VAD) status. Commtech will have a “specific focus” on McAfee’s enterprise portfolio of high-end vulnerability assessment technologies, intrusion prevention solutions and security appliances.

Rob Eatwell, channel director for the UK and Ireland at McAfee, said the company had chosen Commtech based on its expertise in the IT security and networking area, nationwide presence and the value-add it brings to the vendor-distributor relationship.

“Their market penetration and strong reputation for enterprise level customer service also makes them a powerful ally for McAfee as we look to increase our presence in the Irish market,” Eatwell said.

Commtech managing director Justin Owens described the deal as an “excellent match for its skill set” and said it would enhance its current portfolio of IT security products.

Commtech works with a nationwide network of resellers and internet service providers supplying such products as SonicWALL, VMware, Cyberguard, Barracuda Networks, Blue Coat, Websense, Altigen VoIP, Clearswift, GFI and Kerio.
