Research firm Gartner is to hold a major one day summit on the subject of outsourcing in Ireland for the first time next month.

This conference, which is being held in the newly opened Conference Centre at the Irish Management Institute (IMI) campus in Sandyford on 20th November, will focus on a number of areas, including successful outsourcing strategies and relationships, offshore service provision, measuring and managing IT outsourcing deals, and legal implications for the Irish marketplace.

According to Gartner Ireland country manager Oisin Byrne, this is the first time the global firm has organised a country-specific conference on outsourcing as opposed to one that incorporated markets in the US or Europe.

Byrne says that while the Irish market for outsourcing is somewhat less mature than in other countries, a number of factors have come together to make the conference a timely one, including the increasing global profile of the IT outsourcing industry and the large range of offerings now available to Irish firms.

‘The pressure is on for stronger delivery, not only from internal IS, but also from external providers,’ said Byrne. ‘At Gartner, we have found that more than ever, outsourcing is being chosen as a means to help achieve these objectives.’
