The first Irish user friendly website has been launched, allowing jobseekers to apply for positions using their smartphones. Irish recruitment firm The People Group and web development company Evolution-e Internet have joined forces in order to launch Thepeoplegroup.mobi, a dedicated mobile optimised website to cater for the surge in smartphone browsing.
The move towards .mobi after People Group noticed that 15% of its web traffic was coming from mobile devices. Managing director of People Group, Colm Buckley remarked that the launch of the .mobi site reflected the fact that over half of Ireland’s five million mobile phone users are able to access the web, with approximately 600,000 doing so on a regular basis.
Buckley stated that, “we commission Evolution-e to build a system that would ensure mobile visitors to our website had a quicker and better experience in searching and applying for jobs online. Since our launch we have seen a significant increase in web applications from smartphones.” Buckley added that, “we are getting great feedback and an increase in candidate applications which help us to fulfil our client’s roles.”
Stephen Quinn, managing director of Evolution-e commented that the company was excited when approached about the project by People Group. Quinn said that, “mobile phone website development is a new service we are launching in Ireland and the UK, and this was a great opportunity to be part of such a new innovative technology development.”
