iPhone 5 goes on sale in Ireland

The wait ended for Apple fans desperate to get their hands on an iPhone 5 this morning. Hundreds gathered outside mobile phone stores around Ireland to get their hands on the sixth version of the iconic handset.

The latest version is longer and slimmer than previous models and features a larger screen and LTE network connectivity.

Released in the US last Friday, the iPhone 5 has sold 5 million units in its first weekend, 1 million more than its predecessor, iPhone 4S, did over the same period yet still failed to meet some analysts’ expectations.

The handset’s launch has also been overshadowed by controversy over iOS 6’s Maps application – which comes as standard on the iPhone 5 – which was littered with inaccurate data, including giving Dublin a new airport in Kilmacud and relocating the Zoo to Temple Bar.
