Apple is trying to win more corporate business with new features in its recently launched iOS 7 mobile operating system, but one of the world’s largest energy companies is still less than impressed with Apple’s overall business focus.

Brazil’s state-owned Petrobras employs almost 90,000 employees globally and runs an ICT department with around 3,500 responsible for IT, networks and telecoms.

At the SAP press innovation tour of Brazil, Petrobras said it wanted to widen its mobility strategy across the world, covering staff in offices and operating centres to those on oil rigs and in gas plants.

When asked what mobile platforms it was starting to favour to boost mobility, Marcel Jose Kaskas, Petrobras IT software solutions general manager said "We currently use BlackBerry devices widely but have to also consider the wider take-up of other mobile operating systems.

"Android is important in terms of market share although its security is not as good as iOS. But Apple does not seem to be focused on the corporate market, and currently isn’t entirely suited to meet our demands."

The position taken by Petrobras on iOS should be worrying to Apple considering iOS 7 purports to be great improvement on previous offerings when it comes to business use.

"Apple’s iOS 7 delivers over 200 new features, including over 40 features specifically focused on the enterprise," said Nigel Hawthorn, director of marketing EMEA, at mobile device management (MDM) firm MobileIron."iOS 7 is about apps. In conjunction with an enterprise MDM, iOS 7 removes key barriers to broad-scale app development and deployment."

For MDM Petrobras recently moved from Sybase to a SAP system.
