The Marine Institute’s Irish Spatial Data Exchange was publicly launched at the Location2006 conference in Dublin recently. Fujitsu Services partnered with ESRI Ireland and the Marine Institute to develop a data warehouse solution that creates an Irish Spatial Data Exchange and query service for spatial-related metadata.

The ISDE is a discovery service for spatial data generated by partner organisations participating in the exchange and facilitates searching of meta-data catalogues operated by each of the partner organisations. This data is now available for analysis internally and externally, via the Irish Spatial Data Exchange website (www.isde.ie) and will be available on the Marine Institute’s website (www.marine.ie) within the coming weeks.

The Irish Spatial Data Exchange solution demonstrates the value of data exchange within the marine sector and public services sector as a whole. It provides immediate practical assistance to those agencies and organisations and individuals that require a nationwide view of the available marine data.

The project will also increase Ireland’s ability to manage and benefit from the marine related data resource that exists within the public services and will demonstrate the potential of web-enabled Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and related technologies at a national level.
