First Blu Ray notebook arrives in Ireland

This is Dell’s fastest consumer notebook, the XPS M1710, and features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Nvidia graphics with 512Mb and up to 4Gb of memory. The XPS M1710 notebooks can write across CD, DVD and Blu-ray Disc media. Using these systems, users can burn up to 50Gb of data or author up to 50Gb of video on a single piece of media.

Blu-ray Disc technology offers significant advancements for users requiring high-definition content and storage for archiving large amounts of data and digital content. This optical drive technology supports feature-length, high-definition video and offers the highest picture quality available. In addition, it offers the highest optical disc capacity with up to 50Gb of storage or equal to more than five times the capacity of dual layer DVD.

In addition, seven of eight major Hollywood studios have announced their support for the format with more than 100 feature titles announced to date.

Blu-ray Disc also offers a new level of picture resolution versus traditional DVD drives. It’s also backwards compatible with CD and DVD, allowing DVD and Blu-ray Disc movie playback, DVD and BD authoring and CD, DVD and BD data burning. The XPS is the first Blu-ray Disc notebook with Nvidia PureVideo High Definition technology for cinema-quality video.

Pricing for the new notebook starts at €2,949.
