Fiat has become to the first economy car manufacturer to integrate a truly hands-free Bluetooth car kit into its Grande Punto, the Alfa Romeo 159 and Brera series. Using only their voices, up to five passengers in the car are able to place and answer voice calls from their mobiles.

Retailing for €295 in both Fiat and Alfa Romeo models, it is available for a limited period as a no-cost extra on top of the price of the car. The Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 16v Sporting 3 door retails for €17,995.

With the Blue&Me voice activated system, the user calls out the name or the number they wish to contact and names and number from your mobile phone address book can be uploaded by the system into the in-car digital controller system which has been developed by the automotive division of Microsoft exclusively for Fiat. With the system, the microphones that pick up your voice calls and the amplifiers to broadcast your incoming calls are part of the Windows Mobile architecture. Also, if you are listening to music and a call comes in, the system will turn the music down automatically.

The Blue&Me system is also designed to let you listen to digital music from a solid state music player or a USB key. The player connects to the in-car system via USB and once the car engine starts, a music library gets built and you can control what you want to hear by way of the buttons on the steering wheel or by key words.
