Facebook is introducing a new app for sellers on Marketplace. The app, called Seller, is intended for people who regularly sell products via Facebook and brings all sales features together in one place. The launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of Facebook Marketplace.

Seller includes tools for creating and managing listings, including AI features that can automatically suggest a title, description, price estimate and category based on photos. In addition, the app offers a central inbox for conversations with buyers, inventory management and statistics on the performance of listings. Existing Marketplace listings, messages and sales history are synchronised automatically.

Meta is mainly targeting the app at active sellers who list dozens of products per week. Occasional users can continue to sell via the regular Facebook app. For now, Seller is available to US users aged 18 and over. Meta is also testing a Web version of the service.

Facebook also wants to launch a TikTok-like video feed in the longer term. “In addition to improving the tools for people who are actively doing things on Facebook, we’re also looking at the experience of people who use the platform for entertainment and to connect with authentic creators,” the platform writes. “Users are showing us that they want more immersive, visual and video-focused experiences. Video is where conversations happen, communities form and even commerce is starting to take place.”

Later this year, Facebook will begin testing a revamped experience where some users who want to see more video will, immediately after opening the app, be presented with a full-screen video interface. Users can choose to switch off this experience and return to a Feed-focused view. The classic Feed will always remain available as a second tab in the app, just one click away. Facebook will first test this environment in countries where a lot of video is watched.

At the same time, Facebook is announcing a free verification system. With Facebook Verified, users can use a short selfie video to demonstrate that there is a real person behind a profile. Accounts must also comply with the platform’s safety and conduct rules. The verification badge will appear on, among other places, Marketplace, Groups, Dating and profile pages. With this, Meta wants to increase trust between users, without requiring a paid subscription. The rollout will begin in phases in a number of markets.
