The European Union is investing more than €497 million in the creation of six new factories for AI. These facilities will be located in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain, and will join 13 existing centres. The goal of this expansion is to create an interconnected network of innovation hubs.
The initiative, led by the European Partnership for High-Performance Computing (Euro HPC), focuses on the development of advanced AI infrastructure. Each new factory will be equipped with systems specifically optimised for artificial intelligence.
In addition to its core functions, the Spanish AI factory will also house an experimental platform. This platform will serve as a hub for testing and developing advanced AI models and applications, and will promote collaboration between European researchers and innovators.
Additionally, these AI factories will serve as centralised support centres for European start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and research institutions working in the AI field. They are designed to provide comprehensive support and resources to accelerate the development and application of AI solutions across various sectors.
By significantly boosting Europe’s computing power, this investment strengthens the European Union’s ambition to become a world leader in AI. The initiative ensures that AI solutions can be developed, tested, and scaled within a safe and digital European ecosystem.
