Under the terms of the contract, 24 Ericsson IT support staff have joined the EDS Ireland payroll. Ericsson maintains three facilities in Ireland at Clonskeagh, Dun Laoghaire and Athlone. Between all three locations there are 1,900 employees who require helpdesk and related support.

The contract covers a range of IT functions including help desk, desktop service and server management. All services being provided to Ericsson are in accordance with a Service Level Agreement to ensure that the quality of services is maintained throughout the transition and into the future.

‘Key to the smooth transfer of services is a combination of agreed levels of quality and reduction of cost,’ said Peter Donnelly, managing director, EDS Ireland. ‘It was also important to EDS Ireland that the experience inherent in Ericsson’s internal IT department was not lost.’

Initially EDS managed a straightforward crossover of services with the same people providing the same service, only this time employed by EDS rather than Ericsson.

‘Ericsson benefits from reduced costs and the same levels of service,’ Donnelly added. ‘For our part, we can take advantage of the European EDS network to leverage functions for our clients and thereby reduce our costs while still delivering on our service promise.’
