Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) has become the first higher education institution in Ireland to be awarded the prestigious EU Knowledge Alliance funding under Erasmus+ for a project entitled HubLinked: Strengthening Europe’s Software Innovation Capacity.

According to project leader Dr Deirdre Lillis, Head of the DIT School of Computing, HubLinked aims to enhance innovation, participation and sharing of knowledge in the ICT sector by creating a network of European ICT professionals.

It is estimated the project will involve some 3,000 companies, 12,000 students and 400 staff during the lifetime of the project.

“The goal of HubLinked is to strengthen software innovation capacity in Europe. As the lead organisation, DIT will be working with our HubLinked academic and industry partners to improve the effectiveness of University-Industry linkages between computer science faculty and all companies. Our aim is to upskill academic and industry staff to collaborate in software innovation; to develop global software innovators who can work in any sector; and to increase the participation of women in the ICT sector,” said Prof Brian O’Neill, Director of Research, Innovation and Enterprise Services, DIT.

“Dr Lillis and her team put forward an excellent proposal which has been granted almost €1 million in funding under Erasmus+ Key Action 2 – Co-operation. HubLinked has the potential to contribute immensely to innovation and upskilling in this key sector.”

The HubLinked partnership includes seven large, industry-focused computer science faculties and four industry partners representing large multinationals, SMEs and start-ups. International partners include the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (Germany); Telecom Sud-Paris (France); European Business Network (Belgium); and Kyungpook University (Korea).
