Navigation solutions provider TomTom has signed a distribution agreement with Sharptext. The Dublin-based company will now carry the full range of TomTom car and motorbike navigation products for the Irish market.
The range includes a portable navigation device and a unit for motorcycles, among many other types.
Sharptext retail manager John Cooke said: “We are now seeing satellite navigation devices that are both sophisticated and affordable. This has opened up the market to a much wider range of mainstream business and private users. TomTom has been at the forefront of these developments, and with this partnership our resellers can now offer this world leading brand to their customers.”
TomTom retail account manager Lewis Clifford noted: “This is a key appointment for us and we are confident we have a distribution partnership in place to bring our award-winning navigation products to a much wider audience in the Irish market.”
With a focus on safety and smarter routing, TomTom this year introduced two major new features into the TomTom GO range: IQ Routes and advanced lane guidance. The IQ Routes technology calculates routes based on real average road speeds, rather than maximum speed limits, taking into account any roundabouts, speed bumps or traffic lights – and whether it is a weekday or weekend – and advises the driver of the smartest route. Advanced lane guidance is a safety feature that provides a detailed view of the road ahead of complex junctions, helping drivers avoid last-minute lane changes, and ensuring drivers are in the right lane at all times.
