Rich pickings: EMC harvests the fruits of Greenplum technology
Storage specialist EMC has introduced an integrated data warehouse system using the Greenplum massively parallel processing (MPP) architecture. The firm says it helps organisations to more efficiently make sense of the massive amounts of data they generate from various sources.
With a claimed data loading speed twice that of its nearest competitor, the EMC Greenplum Data Computing Appliance enables more data to be analysed faster and at lower costs.
The new system was developed and is shipping just 75 days following EMC’s acquisition of Greenplum, and comes at a time when IDC predicts that the volume of data over the next decade will grow by a factor of 44.
Greenplum’s data warehousing technology is described as a key enabler of “big data” clouds and self-service analytics. Greenplum is the foundation of EMC’s new Data Computing Products Division, which is developing the analytic tools to address the “big data” phenomenon.
