CA has unveiled a service for managing BlackBerry smartphones. CA Mobile Device Management, aimed at business users with phones made by Research In Motion (Rim), substantially mitigates security and compliance risks associated with these devices, according to CA. Cost of the service starts at EUR* 65 per device.

The service simplifies the provisioning and ongoing management of mobile devices via existing over-the-air connections without placing agents on any devices. It features a configurable self-service portal that lets users register their devices, manage passwords, and address common problems without corporate help-desk intervention. It also provides a web-based console that unifies all core management tasks – including security management, asset inventory, configuration management, policy compliance, and reporting – for all devices across the enterprise.

Juan Santiago, a wireless telephony specialist at services and products provider CDW Corporation, commented: “During our evaluation, we saw how CA MDM can reduce administrative overhead and time-to-resolution for a wide range of end-user issues. We also saw how users can activate their devices through CA MDM in about 10 minutes – which, in addition to saving users time and money, can also increase their satisfaction with IT service levels.”
According to IDC research, the mobile device management market is expected to grow from $205.7m in 2006, to $345m by 2011.
