A list compiled by US newspaper The Wall Street Journal allows us to indulge in a little bit of schadenfreude.

Less than saintly maybe but highly amusing and we can laugh at the absurdity of some of the biggest failures inspired by the Internet.

Take for example, Cyberrebate.com. This company thought it could make money by selling heavily marked up goods with the promise of a hefty rebate.

As long as buyers jumped through some hoops they were promised a full rebate.

Cyberrebate banked on buyers forgetting to fill out the rebate form, or failing to do so on time.Not surprisingly, people didn’t and the company filed for bankruptcy owing around $83.4m.

Digiscents’ idea to produce scents over the Internet also failed to take off.
