CES is home to more than a few wacky ideas and this year is no exception. Xpeng Aeroht, Asia’s largest manufacturer of flying cars, revealed some important details about its Land Aircraft Carrier at CES 2025. The aircraft is a modular flying car with tilt rotor for high speed and long distances. It fits six people.

The company reports that 3,000 orders have already been placed. First deliveries are scheduled for 2026. A type approval and first public, manned flight are already behind it.

In 2024, the company raised $150 million in a Series B1 financing round and began construction of the world’s first series production facility for modular flying cars in Guangzhou, China.

The ground-based ‘mother ship’ takes the air module to any location. The air module then extends its arms, unfolds its landing gear and is ready for takeoff. After landing, the ground module reconnects with the air module, which then retracts its arms to stow away in the back of the ground module.

The mother ship is a six-wheeled vehicle, drivable with a B license. The ground module is about 5.5 metres long, two metres wide and two metres high. With that, it simply fits into a standard parking space or garage.

The air module features six rotors with folding propellers and arms, while the lightweight panoramic cockpit with 270% all-round visibility is made of carbon fibre. The air module is powered by an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage system and a compact propulsion system for efficient and effortless flight.
