Bluesky opens up to the public with mixed results

Twitter /X alternative Bluesky officially opened its doors to everyone this week. Until now, you could enter by invitation only.

However, the launch did not go as smoothly as it could have. There were significant technical problems, chief amongst them the sites inability to tope with the 2 million messages posted within the first 24 hours of public access.

Although number of unique users of Bluesky almost doubled from Monday to Tuesday, that growth may be temporary. Bluesky is still smaller than its primary competitor, Mastodon. The open source alternative to X now has more than 4 million users.

Instagram Threads gets a much-needed feature, namely the ability to bookmark posts. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the feature Wednesday in a Threads post.

Users can find the new save feature under the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of a post.
