Amazon to lay off another 30,000 employees
Amazon is reportedly planning to cut up to 30,000 office jobs, which amounts to just under 10% of roles outside the company’s operational side.
Cost rationalisation is said to be the reason for the restructuring. During the Covid period, most e-commerce companies invested heavily in growth. They did so by hiring new staff as well as building up large inventories. At the end of last year, those residual stocks were finally run down and Amazon is now opting to reduce its personnel costs.
Sources tell news agency Reuters that Amazon managers received extra training in conducting redundancy conversations. Those are expected to start taking place later today.
Amazon employs a total of 1.6 million people of which 350,000 are in office jobs.
