Broadband provider Airfibre begun offering 100Mb/s leased line services to businesses in the greater Dublin area for €850 per month.

Airfibre claims it is the only operator to offer 100Mb/s upload and 100Mb/s download connections in the capital.

The service represents what CEO and chairman John Earley called "a substantial uplift in its backhaul capacity, in order to accommodate the exponential demand that we are seeing for bandwidth in certain sectors".

Early went on to criticise competing telcos, which he claimed were making "nonsensical claims about bandwidth in the last mile."

He continued: "Anyone can offer massive last mile access bandwidth, but if they are unable to invest in appropriate backhaul to the web, these promises are meaningless. Users will not get what they are paying for and will suffer as they migrate to latency critical applications such as voice and video."
