No way out? Not with iTraffic’s navigator

Over a million of Ireland’s smart phone users can now use a new app that delivers real-time traffic data with “turn-by-turn navigation”.

The app receives traffic-flow updates every five minutes and provides advance warning of potential bottlenecks such as accidents and road-works, according to the developer. Information and directions can be sent as text instructions and also in 2D or 3D route views for phone displays. Another option is to have voice instructions on what to do and where to turn.

The eccentrically-named Twaffic Navigator is billed by its developers as Ireland’s first smart phone-enabled navigation device to include real-time traffic information. It lets users check journey times before setting off. The app was launched by Irish company iTraffic.

For business users the system can keep track of journeys and tot up mileage for expense claims.

Brendan Conway, MD of iTraffic, notes: “With Twaffic Navigator you can also easily search and get exact positions for your destinations. You get positions for persons, addresses, businesses, petrol stations, clubs, cultural centres, and amenities such as parks.”

Compatible handsets capable of downloading the Twaffic Navigator app include the iPhone, BlackBerry and GPS-enabled Smart phones such as Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson. The service is available through O2, Vodafone, Meteor and 3. A one-year subscription costs €49, or €69 for a two-year licence.
