Dublin-based software house ZuTec claims that its Digital Facilities Guide can reduce the cost of capturing, maintaining and storing construction data by up to 50 per cent.
In the construction industry, the cost of preparing the Operations and Maintenance Manuals for building works — which is required by law — is estimated to be in the region of 0.3 to 0.5 per cent of the overall construction value.
The Digital Facilities Guide is an online, browser-accessed, project tool. It digitises Operations and Maintenance Manuals, which can run to more than 20,000 pages from suppliers and more than 200 detailed CAD drawings.
This system is said to reduce the time spent on tasks such as double handling of data, compiling reports and final signoff by the main contractor.
ZuTec’s servers are located in the Eircom-Internet House with standby generation, fire protection and daily off-site backup facilities.
Data stored on the system is taken directly from the original materials, which eliminates the difficulty of reading potentially illegible photocopies.
Users can access the data at any time using an Internet connection.
