Website-building platform Wix is reportedly preparing a major round of layoffs in which a thousand people will lose their jobs.
News site Ctech reports that the decision stems from a number of simultaneous developments.
After the coronavirus subsided, the company still had a headcount geared towards strong growth. But the real world started up again and digital growth levelled off.
In addition, they acquired no‑code AI dev platform Base44, a sort of Lovable. Users can use it to build sites and apps. Most of the growth is in this highly efficient division, and that is where more investment money should be going.
In short, Wix is trimming the fat.
In the first three months of 2026, Wix posted a net loss of $58 million after several profitable quarters, despite a 14% increase in revenue to $541 million. The company attributes the losses to a sharp rise in marketing and sales expenses, as well as payments related to the acquisition of Base44.
The Wix share price has fallen by 66% over the past year.
