The second annual What’s Your Story digital safety competition was launched yesterday by cloud security firm Trend Micro at the it@cork Super Tech Tuesday marking Safer Internet Day 2013.

The competition aims to promote peer awareness about online safety among school children in Ireland, by inviting students to talk about ways to stay safe online by creating a video or a poster about the positive side of the Internet under the theme ‘Connect with Respect’.

"The What’s Your Story competition gives school children and young adults a voice to express their views and feelings about the Internet", said Avril Ronan, Trend Micro senior operations manager and Internet safety programme co-ordinator. "By creating a video or poster and by encouraging fellow peers to view it on our competition website is actually an awareness raising exercise in itself. Our experience has shown that this open peer-led approach to education when it comes to internet safety has proven effective."
