In a bid to promote 3G to the business space, HP and Vodafone have struck a deal that will allow the mobile phone company’s IT resellers to bundle its Mobile Connect 3G datacard with all of HP’s laptops.
Effectively, customers will receive the 3G datacard free with their HP laptop, provided that they sign up for a business plan with Vodafone. HP and Vodafone distributor Sharptext will handle the distribution for the promotion.
Martin Cullen, HP Ireland head of PSG and SPO, described the initiative as part of an ongoing mobility strategy which stretched from laptops to the new handheld converged iPAQ hw6900 series.
“Increased mobility is key to raising worker productivity,” he argued, “and we are dedicated to offering a range of business solutions to help companies achieve this goal.”
Cullen claimed it was significant that the promotion was not just confined to top tier HP notebooks. “The depth of choice will enable companies to find the best business fit in terms of cost and capabilities, so providing the optimal return on IT investment,” he argued.
Emer Breathnach, commercial director at Sharptext, said the bundling of Vodafone 3G cards with HP laptops was a “prime example of how converging technologies present opportunities for our resellers. Over the past number of months we’ve committed a lot of resources to be able to offer mobile connect devices to our customers. For this bundle, we’re delighted with the response we’re receiving.”
