Viatel acquires Sungard Ireland’s cloud services business
Viatel Technology Group has acquired Sungard Availability Services. Financial terms of the deal were not revealed.
Viatel recently announced the creation of 50 new jobs as the group significantly expands its cybersecurity portfolio. The addition of Sungard AS’ substantial multinational customer base, cloud capability and data centre facilities in Park West and Profile Park further expands the company’s footprint in existing and adjacent markets.
Viatel Technology Group CEO, Paul Rellis, said: “Viatel is focused on executing a bold vision to deliver digital transformation with the greatest positive impact for our enterprise customer base globally. Sungard AS delivers innovative and critical services from bases in Ireland, the US and India. We are excited to bring this global customer base, reach, influence and expertise under the Viatel Technology Group umbrella, and we welcome the team to Viatel.
“We are acquiring capabilities in Amazon Web Services’ public cloud services architecture, high performance computing and private cloud as valuable additions to Viatel’s existing leadership in Microsoft Azure, private cloud and physical data centre solutions. In short, we are now a “one stop cloud shop”.
This is the eighth acquisition by Viatel since 2020. During that period, strategic acquisitions and internally developed capabilities have transformed the well-established enterprise connectivity company into a leading-edge digital technology partner empowering over 4,000 Irish and multinational customers. Following this most recent acquisition, Viatel expects annual revenues to exceed €90 million, with over 310 employees.
