Three, BT partner for 100Mb/s fibre network

Mobile operator Three has announced a €38 million contract with BT, which will see a fibre network rolled out to over 200 new mobile sites and support to a further 1,000 sites that currently serve Three’s customer base.

The roll-out, which will take place over the next 18 months, will allow higher broadband speeds enabling Three to deliver up to 100Mb/s to facilitate the demands of data-savvy Irish consumers.

Welcoming the announcement Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three, said: “As Ireland’s largest high speed mobile network, Three has invested over €800 million in infrastructure in Ireland to deliver much-needed voice, text and broadband services.”

Graham Sutherland, CEO, BT Ireland, said: “Securing this contract reaffirms BT’s position at the forefront of the managed services industry in Ireland. We have worked with Three for the past seven years, and are delighted to deliver innovative solutions that add value to their business and growth strategy.”

Since leaving the consumer space BT have moved into supplying networked IT services to multinational corporations, domestic business and government organisations. The company also provides access to its network and services to the majority of communications providers in the market. BT’s Irish assets include an all-IP 21CN network, data centres, solution design and integration professionals and IT security experts.
