Fujitsu Services has won a €16 million deal to deliver and manage a system to record proceedings in Ireland’s courts, allowing the playback of evidence to judges in all courtrooms.

A pilot scheme starts this month, with rollout to all the country’s courtrooms to follow.
In addition to setting up the Digital Audio Recording (DAR) system and a secure data storage environment, the contract calls for Fujitsu to facilitate the production and delivery of court transcripts.

The recordings of court proceedings will providing an accurate record of evidence, which in turn will be used to make transcripts and digital audio files for use in court. When courts request transcripts, these will be provided by Merrill Legal, which will have automated access to the stored digital audio files via a secure private network.
Fujitsu CEO Regina Moran said the Irish system is among the most advanced in the world.
