The Bar of Ireland has announced the formal selection of Newcode as its AI provider, appointing the legal Agentic AI platform to deliver a dedicated AI service for Irish barristers following a rigorous evaluation process.

Newcode was chosen after outperforming major international competitors, marking a significant step in The Bar of Ireland’s approach to responsible, secure and professionally governed AI adoption.
Built for regulated environments, Newcode’s legal AI platform delivers intelligent, auditable and context-aware workflows designed to equip users with advanced AI capabilities while preserving governance, security and professional standards.

Seán Guerin SC, Chair of the Bar Council of Ireland, said: “The emergence of artificial intelligence is not simply a technical development – it has broader implications for the administration of justice and the public’s confidence in it. The work of barristers depends not only on professional standards, but on trust – trust in the way legal arguments are prepared, presented, and tested. As new technologies develop, it is important that the profession engages with them in a way that does not weaken that trust.”

The Bar’s adoption of Newcode reflects a wider professional shift towards AI as a governed and structured support for legal work, rather than as a shortcut. The platform will support members in using AI in a way that is practical, responsible and secure.

Shirley Coulter, chief executive officer of The Bar of Ireland, added: “The approach taken by The Bar of Ireland has focused on putting the systems, structures, and supports in place so that members can engage with AI in a practical and reliable way. This includes not only training, but the creation of shared resources, communities of practice, and ongoing support mechanisms that allow members to develop their use of these tools as their needs evolve.”

The partnership follows Newcode’s recent creation of 30 new roles in Ireland. Commenting on the partnership, Donna O’Leary, director and head of Newcode AI Ireland, said: “This partnership positions Newcode and The Bar of Ireland as leaders in responsible and well‑governed AI adoption. Comprehensive training and robust frameworks have been established to give members full confidence in the platform’s integrity, security, and governance.”
