Job vacancies in the ICT sector show high demand for certain key skills, such as business intelligence, data analysis and development, according to the latest Morgan McKinley Ireland Employment Monitor report.

The report found that overall, the number of professional job vacancies in January 2015 was up by 24% compared to the same month last year. It also recorded a 31% increase in job availability in January 2015 compared to December 2014, reflecting, it says, a confident start to hiring in the new year.

In the ICT sector, demand remains strong, reflecting the overall lift in the economy, with, the report says, a high demand for client facing IT people indicating a renewed sales and client development focus in the sector.

The report said that the sector nationally remains buoyant and with demand for permanent and contract professionals, particularly for developers with experience in programming languages such as Java, .Net and UI.

“It is early in the year but indications are that companies remain confident and optimistic in their hiring outlook, with an increasingly long term view on their hiring plans,” said Bryan Hyland, operations director, Morgan McKinley Ireland. “As the economy continues its shift from recovery to growth, the skills required to consolidate and drive this growth across all sectors are in focus.”

There was a drop in the overall number of professionals seeking new positions, some 18% compared to January in 2014, which, the report says, indicates a greater level of stability in the market.
