Tech Excellence Awards 2017 winners announced

Edel Creely, group managing director at Trilogy Technologies and vice president of Ibec, was honoured with the person of the year award at the 2017 Tech Excellence Awards.

Held for the first time at the Citywest Hotel, more than 600 people from 800 companies across Ireland attended the black tie gala celebrating the continued strides made by the technology sector and its growing importance to the economy.

Also honoured on the night were Movidius founders Sean Mitchell and David Maloney who received the entrepreneur of the year award.

The rising star award went to Nuritas founder Dr Nora Khaldi for her work applying artificial intelligence to the analysis of food ingredients.

Microsoft received the inaugural Hibernia Award recognising multinationals for longstanding contribution to the Irish tech sector.

Company of the year went to industry stalwart CMS Distribution, who also took home the channel programme of the year award.

The Tech Excellence Awards were adjudicated by industry experts Eoin O’Driscoll (chairman, Tyndall Institute), Dr Jim Mountjoy (mentor), Tom McCarthy (chairman, Advisory Council on Science, Technology & Innovation), Peter McManamon (Atlantic Bridge), Dr Seán Baker (chairman, Incaplex), Louise Nicolls (head of technology & innovation, Brown Bag Films), and Cronan McNamara (CEO, Creme Global).

Billy Huggard, operations director at Tech Excellence Awards organiser Mediateam, said: “These Awards are now positioned recognise professionalism among individuals and companies in the technology sector in Ireland but they also provide the only occasion where we can all come together and enjoy the company of all our friends in this most energetic of industries.

“The quality and number of entries have raised the benchmark yet again. The evidence of best business practice with deep technical know-how was abundant in the entries this year.”
