You must be joking! Bill shock can send customers to a rival
Growing usage of data services by mobile subscribers has revealed a problem for operators: the so-called bill shock: when a subscriber gets a bill significantly higher than usual, typically as a result of using data services while roaming.
Software house and systems integrator Comarch now offers telecom operators a solution: Comarch Bill Shock Prevention.
Comarch says mobile users often don’t realise that some applications automatically connect to the internet on launching. And, even if they know that they are using the internet abroad, they are often oblivious of the charges for some web activity.
This is also a novel and substantial problem for operators, who face complaints from distressed subscribers who may then switch to a rival provider.
Comarch Bill Shock Prevention is designed to enable mobile operators and MVNOs to prevent bill shock. It conforms to EC regulations on how telecos should allow users to control their roaming bills.
