Complete Telecom has completed a major technology upgrade for Avid Technology, a maker of digital media creation tools for film, video, audio, animation, games and broadcast professionals.

Increasing requirements and advances in digital media meant Avid’s existing LAN switches needed upgrading, particularly those at the company’s two primary European sites in Dublin and at Britain’s Pinewood Studios.

Avid’s European IS manager, Paul Reid, noted: “The existing switches were at the end of their life and were no longer supported by their vendor, so we needed a more modern and robust solution..”

Reid said Complete’s pricing was up to 30% more competitive than hardware from other vendors while maintenance was 50% less for a higher specification. “Choosing Complete wasn’t a tough decision.”

Avid’s Dublin manufacturing facility is linked to Pinewood Studios by a Wide Area Network connection. Complete spent three-months replacing the networks connecting both locations, implementing Enterasys Matrix Power over Ethernet switches, and upgrading VoIP telephony at both sites. Avid has 200 staff at Dublin and Pinewood.

Complete CTO Didier Lebret-Renault said the project was completed without any disruption to Avid’s work, and that there had been no data transfer or business continuity issues.
