Richer features

Ergo Helder Teixeira, senior consultant engineer, network service operations

The network is the bedrock for everything, without it we are all islands. In my experience, customers have evolved their networks organically over the years and have not applied the same level of consideration to management and security on the network, particularly the LAN, as they have done on other aspects of the ICT estate such as compute, storage and any system containing data at rest.As the network sprawls organically, one would find that the devices deployed are configured to minimum viable configuration i.e. get network traffic moving through them. The richer features available would remain dormant and never utilised.

Customers struggle with making the journey from the organic, ad-hoc poor value network deployment to a state of comprehensive management, automation and security. They try to do too much at once and quite frequently refresh the network estate, underpinning the refresh decision based on only a fraction of the factors that should be considered (typically the only considerations are brand and speed). The refresh decision should be based on all factors, performance requirements, security, management, interoperability, future readiness, resilience, availability etc.

The network is at the heart of your business, enabling your people to communicate. You want to ensure it is performing, that it is right-sized, that it is secure and that not an easy point of attack. You want to know what is happening on your network … you want to know before it happens.

Ergo can help you on this journey to a managed, automated, secure network infrastructure for your business. We execute a maturity assessment discovery, we identify what your needs are today and in the future. We then execute a gap analysis comparing these needs to your current network. Finally we work closely with you to road map a network transformation programme to get you to your destination, focussing on priority risk and high value impact milestones first. The result is a right-sized, responsive, monitored, proactive, resilient and secure network with automation capability. The advent of Software Defined Networking and the embracing of open standards from vendors such as HP further enhances Ergo’s ability to transform how networks are deployed, secured, managed and optimised.
Ultimately, working with Ergo you get a network that securely performs and delivers for your communications, your people and your business.

Managed services, network visibility
“Although the marketing gurus would have us believe the network is an underlying commodity that should just work, that’s not how it seems in the real world” Darragh Richardson, Agile Networks

Agile Networks Darragh Richardson

The network is becoming increasingly important — and complex — as more employees demand more connectivity from more locations! Traditional IT teams are struggling to control what their users need and are being asked to ‘do more with less’ without the right expertise, budget, or time. One common solution is to outsource it all — a solution that works great on PowerPoint but doesn’t translate into the real world of legacy equipment, bespoke needs, and immediate response. At Agile Networks we believe a better answer is to provide clients with dedicated network specialist skills and vendor independent advice. In our experience the broad line approach of ‘one size fits all’ doesn’t work; clients want a network that fits around their business and not vice versa. To achieve that we only employee engineers with a minimum of 8 year’s filed experience and a multi-vendor background.

Although the marketing gurus would have us believe the network is an underlying commodity that should just work, that’s not how it seems in the real world. As the network becomes more virtualised understanding how it really works becomes ever more important. Proactive managed services and true network visibility are key to this and we see it as becoming part of the standard service we supply to all of our customers, regardless of their size.

Complex needs
“The right network strategy will allow the infrastructure to scale and meet business requirements as well as enhance agility and productivity while lowering operating costs” siobhan_cusack_sales_manager-ireland._trilogy_technologies_web

Trilogy Technologies Siobhan Cusack

The evolution of the end-user computing environment has signalled big changes in the IT networking landscape, with networking technologies evolving to fulfil more complex needs of performance, high availability and dynamic changes, influencing the way the infrastructure is being designed. The foundation of the networking model is the physical and data-link layers, upon which all other network components sit. Ensuring this foundation is rock solid will prevent problems traveling up to the other layers of the network. Investment is key and where organisations have got this right, they have reaped the benefits.

As a trusted IT partner, Trilogy Technologies works to design, develop and implement converged network strategies that align with technology and industry trends, as well as considering user requirements. The right network strategy will allow the infrastructure to scale and meet business requirements as well as enhance agility and productivity while lowering operating costs.

On an on-going basis, implementing appropriate network management tools will ensure proactively pinpointing problems before they occur thus ensuring maximum uptime. Securing the network is another essential consideration and as methods continuously develop month on month, this will always be an on-going challenge. Customers can now see the benefits of Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Trilogy can provide a granular approach to securing information flow within an organisation.

Performing health checks on the network every 6 months at a minimum is a proactive approach that will eliminate wastage and bottlenecks, controlling costs and increasing performance. Trilogy can also introduce new advancements in networking technology to help organisations deal with challenges; virtual networking such as VMware NSX within a datacentre environment is one to be considered.

Trilogy designs, implements and manages agile infrastructure helping clients to enhance their operations, mitigate risk and enable business strategy. The company incorporates expertise in both infrastructure transformation and Managed IT as a Service to deliver business-wide IT services.
