South East Technological University releases online course in 3D printing
South East Technological University (SETU) has launched a fully online series of courses to give professionals a greater understanding of the far-reaching impact of 3D printing.
The on-demand programme of minor awards allows participants to obtain certificates in the modules that are of most interest and relevance to their career or business.
Programme leader David Alarco said: “This new certificate course reflects our commitment to fostering innovation and addressing the evolving needs of industries. Additive manufacturing is a game-changer, and our programme aims to provide professionals with the knowledge and skills required to navigate this dynamic landscape. 3D printing is being widely used across industry, in particular aerospace, automotive and healthcare, because of its reliability, speed and the cost benefits. Our degree course is the first of its kind in Ireland and has proved to be very successful.
“The certificates are an opportunity for people who would like to know more about the area and how it can work for their business but who don’t want to commit to a full degree. Others may wish to pick one or two modules that are most relevant to them. Because it’s online and self-paced it means that anyone in Ireland or across the world can complete it in their own time.”
The stand-alone modules form part of the Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Additive Manufacturing which first launched in 2022. The degree course will soon be taking applications for the third cohort of students. It is part of the AMASE (Additive Manufacturing Advancing the South East) project and is funded by the Higher Education Authority’s HCI Pillar 3, a government initiative dedicated to enhancing collaboration between higher education and enterprise, with a specific focus on innovative teaching and learning practices.
The certificates are fully flexible, self-paced and are tailored to suit the diverse needs and busy schedules of industry professionals, managers, and engineers.
Expressions of interest are now being taken for the first module, Introduction to Additive Manufacturing, which begins in March.
