Irish firm Softlabs has combined its AutoCon automated personnel monitoring system with 3Com’s NBX IP telephony product for businesses employing security staff, which must comply with national regulations.

The 3Com NBX IP-based telephony system together with AutoCon automates the monitoring of security personnel on site and provides a report, forwarding and call answering facility—saving the need for a 24-hour human presence.

The pressure on security staff numbers is expected to increase when the Private Security Services Bill is passed into law next year.

Using the 3Com networked telephony system, the average response rate for call answering is 0.2s whereas the human manual system is 9s.

Rossana Dickinson, technical director of Softlabs said: ‘AutoCon reduces operational costs, increases operational efficiency and increases process transparency. It allows security companies to monitor their security operatives on site within a health and safety framework and on a feasible budget.

‘We foresee this system enabling security companies to make the most of their existing staff and therefore minimise their exposure to industry shortfalls.’
