Say so long to ASCII text icons to express delight disappointment or just plain sarcasm, the launch of the Tablet PC operating system has taken emoticons to a new, more visually exciting level.
Users of the new notebook-style Tablet PC which allow the user to write or draw electronically to the screen, will be able to use colourful pictures to express their feelings.
We’ve seen about 15 so far and they include “I’m Hank Marvin” (I’m starving), “Beer goggles” (Vision impaired from drunkenness) and “Pants” (It’s rubbish). The first emoticons were created by Aardman Studios — the same animators that brought us Pleistocene favourites Wallace & Gromit.
