The latest version of Skype, which adds webcam support so that people can see each other as they talk for free over the Internet, has gone live.
Diana Braun-Csutak, retail business development manager, admitted at CES that Skype was late with the feature, but said: “We took a long time to do it in a Skype way thatÕs friendly and easy.”
Several Skype software and hardware add-ons were launched during CES, including a Netgear Wi-fi phone that lets you make calls over Skype whether or not your PC is switched on, provided there is an access point within range.
Netgear’s founder, chairman and CEO Patrick Lo, said it would be released in the Spring, and added that the company is working on alternative versions that can cope with video calls and have flash media to record conversations.
