A survey recently conducted by Hibernia Evros has found that Irish firms are reluctant to commit to any further outsourcing initiatives. While 72% of respondents answered that they were engaged in some form of out sourcing, only 17% of them replied that they had plans to outsource further in the future.
Hibernia Evros conduct a study on an annual basis, questioning 123 Irish firms on their plans for and current outsourcing business solutions. John Kennedy, sales & marketing director of the Hibernia Evros Technology Group commented that, “releasing more IT staff for more strategic work has jumped from number three to the top priority for outsourcing.” Kennedy added that, “the results of our latest survey suggest that companies want o use their internal IT resource more productively and outsource the job of making sure the system works.”
The study found that using staff more productively and focusing further on core business were the main reasons for outsourcing. While other key motivations for outsourcing were attributed to access IT broader skills, cost savings, more efficient IT delivery and in order to focus on core business.
The main deterrents for outsourcing were revealed as a fear of a breach of security or confidentiality, loss of control and reliance on an outside supplier. Kennedy commented on the general mood of reluctance to outsource further by stating that, “all of those issues can be addressed by making sure to partner with an experienced provider and ensure that the strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are in place.”
Of those who were surveyed last year 45% of them stated that their attitudes to outsourcing have remained unchanged, possibly indicating that the IT sector are failing to alleviate outsourcing security fears.
