Aer Rianta has taken delivery of a new point of sale system to handle its growing retail business.

The system, called ObjectPOS, was supplied by UK firm NSB and is designed to integrate with the airport operator’s existing SAP merchandising system installed last year.

Aer Rianta chose ObjectPOS because it allowed the company to handle multiple currencies including the euro, in addition to operating duty free and non-duty free pricing. The software also allows the company to arrange promotional offers that include more than one product line. These events can also be timed to coincide with certain times such as St. Patrick’s Day.

The system was rolled out first in Cork airport, followed by Dublin and lastly Shannon. In 2000, Aer Rianta managed some 18m business and tourist travellers in its airports, which accounted for the need to install a new POS system capable of handling the retail requirements of such a large number of passengers.
