Print images straight to disc

Software and CD publishing companies can produce printed discs in-house using the Rimagé Everest on-demand, photo-realistic CD-R/DVD-R printer.

The printer uses a process of outputting to disc called thermal re-transfer.

With it, the entire label image is first transferred to a plastic transfer ribbon, one colour at a time. The finished image is then re-transferred to the disc. This process permits designs such as edge to edge printing and printing on the centre hub of a disc.

The label quality is said to rival one produced by silk-screen or offset methods, yet can be printed on-demand. Everest uses technology whereby the dots that compose an image vary in size, producing sharp images with great detail.

The pigmented ink is UV protected, so that colours do not fade during the disc’s life. It is not water based and therefore cannot smear. In addition the print cannot be scratched off, so that discs are of sufficient quality for commercial distribution.
