Pierre’s streamlines Web food ordering process
The company is a division of IAWS and deals with close to 4,000 customers nationwide on a weekly basis, supplying frozen food to shops, delicatessens and convenience retail stores.
Pierre’s product list is subject to frequent changes, with new items made available or new promotions launched on a regular basis. As such, the company required a way of distributing this information to its customers in a way that allowed for easy updates.
‘Every time we needed to change a promotion or upload a new product, this had to be done quickly,’ said Pierre’s commercial director Brian O’Casey.
‘We could not afford the luxury of asking an external company to perform these tasks. We insisted that our web solution allowed for easy internal updates.’
The company chose Internet developer Spin Solutions to build the new site, which can be viewed at www.pierres.ie.
The site is divided into two parts. The first is a brochureware site with information about more than 400 products. Customers choose according to category and can then drill down to greater and greater levels of detail such as pricing and specifications.
The second part of the site is an online ordering facility, where each customer has its own password and secure area. Once registered, the client can see the previous five orders and can opt to select one of these or create a new order. This saves time for all concerned, particularly key customers, and should reduce errors.
‘While we do not expect many of our smaller customers to order online, feedback has told us that they do want the option of viewing details on our products and services online,’ said O’Casey. ‘But if just 10 per cent of our larger customers order online, then we should achieve significant streamlining in our business.’
