Accounts software developer Pastel is aggressively ramping up its channel activities in Ireland, growing its dealer base while taking pot-shots at some of its competitors.

The vendor has turned up the heat on its rivals by alleging that some are less than committed to the channel. It claimed that there is ‘general disenchantment’ in both the Irish and UK dealer communities as they find themselves in competition with suppliers who are moving to direct sales.

Last month, Irish resellers were flown free of charge to a Pastel dealer conference in Manchester. According to Pastel, virtually the entire Irish contingent that availed of the trip signed up with the vendor.

The South African based accountancy software group now has more than 20 Irish dealers – double the previous number – and intends to increase this again within the next six months. Plans are also underway for dealer and customer roadshows, supported by a national advertising campaign.

‘Though we are still comparatively small in numbers in Ireland, we have now achieved the beachhead required,’ said Pastel’s international sales director Jeff Lewis.

In Ireland and the UK, Pastel is pitching itself as a rival to Sage. Speaking at the conference, Lewis outlined a range of new SME products in the pipeline from Pastel which are intended to challenge Sage over the next six months.

The software supplier is also readying a customer relationship management package called Resolve, as well as a time and attendance package dubbed Keytime, which monitors employee activities.
