The Kempis Group, which makes paper rolls and specialist paper and stationery, has installed the 3Com X-Series Firewall alongside the Sonicwall Email Security 200, provided by Netforce Ltd. The installation includes two servers, with a third to follow, and gigabyte switches. Netforce also installed a wireless network to access production databases on the factory floor, and e-mail spam filters.

The firewall will secure the local area network using intrusion prevention while the Sonicwall ES200 will guard the e-mail servers from incoming malware and inappropriate content. Kempis operations manager Keith Molloy said his firm had made “significant cost savings” by using the new system.

Kempis Rolls was founded in 1982 as a paper converter making specialist receipts rolls. A decade later it diversified into school and office stationery with the acquisition of the Lismore brand. Some Kempis Group firms have over 100,000 customers, and the manufacturer uses 1,500 tons of paper a year.
