Online backup provider KeepITsafe has signed a deal with national Broadband and web hosting provider Digiweb. The deal, worth EUR*200,000 over three years, sees the backup specialist using Digiweb’s Blanchardstown data centre in Dublin as its prime site.
The data centre is home to some of Ireland’s most successful companies and technology agencies.
KeepITsafe MD Eoin Blacklock told Irish Computer that market conditions and the growing weariness with tape-based backup technology had led some businesses to question just how secure their backup data is.
Blacklock said online backup offered many scalable advantages especially with technology maturation and the development of secure data centres.
“A data protection strategy should be top of the agenda at board meetings. Online backup centralises resources and, apart from giving companies a significant ROI, it also gives an intangible benefit of knowing your data is stored offsite and immediately available.”
He said the ability to immediately back up copies of data securely off-site, away from potential disaster, was the main advantage over manual back up processes. Firms are increasingly outsourcing data management to a solution provider.
The Digiweb data centre will provide KeepITsafe with guaranteed power, network connection and round-the-clock security of servers.
Dan King, Digiweb’s hosting and managed services manager, said his firm’s custom-built Irish data centre was going from strength to strength “and having KeepITsafe on board is yet another testament to the facilities we can offer successful Irish companies”.
Blacklock described data backup as a core “necessity” for any company, and said KeepITsafe had seen too many mishaps in which companies lost crucial business information due to the absence of a backup plan.
