Pictured: Pelikan’s new refiller aims upset the pecking order for inkjet refills
Dublin-based TCW Distribution has earned a feather in its cap by becoming sole Irish distributor for Pelikan, known globally as a maker of computer consumables and stationery products for the commercial, educational and home user markets.
The deal signed with Pelikan Hardcopy (Scotland) coincides with the launch of a new refilling device for inkjet cartridges, the Pelikan PowerPad, and also marks an increased tempo in the German-based manufacturer’s activities in the Irish market. The deal covers sales channels and retail outlets for home use, educational and business-to-business products throughout Ireland north and south.
The PowerPad is initially aimed at users of HP’s most widely used printers. In Europe this represents annual sales of 32 million cartridges (14 million in the UK alone) worth about EUR*570 million. Next in Pelikan’s sights is the Canon Pixma range of printers.
Pelikan’s business manager in Ireland and the UK, Chris Livesey, told Irish Computer that the PowerPad offers the end-user savings against the original of up to 45% “with truly excellent margins for the retailer”. He said the PowerPad would mean the end to “Heath Robinson adapter kits” used for refilling cartridges. The PowerPad was awarded Product of the Show title at this year’s Retail Vision event in Rome.
Livesey said the product was “particularly suited to internet sales as the web enables product demonstration on screen and we have produced web support material including an edited version of a PowerPad video.”
The Pelikan parent company, set up 170 years ago, now employs 2,500 staff generating a turnover of EUR*300 million.
TCW, set up in 1983, specialises as a distributor of cable, networking and computer consumables. Sales director Porter said: “We are delighted to be associated with a brand leader such as Pelikan which, like TCW, is in a rejuvenated and growing phase.”
