New Getronics Ireland general manager Tony Flynn: increasing sales and marketing focus at the company.

As the new general manager with Getronics, one of Tony Flynn’s immediate tasks will be to bring an increased sales and marketing focus to the Irish organisation in a bid to increase awareness of the company and in the process, win new business for its maintenance and services offering.

Getronics’ turnover in the Irish market currently stands at over EUR7m. ‘My immediate thinking is to look at how we can double that within the next 18 to 24 months,’ said Flynn, adding that he thought the Irish market could make ‘a significant contribution to the overall business’.

A large portion of revenue at the Irish operation is accounted for by a services contract with Dell, involving the maintenance of systems for many of the PC maker’s corporate customers locally. This contract is part of a worldwide agreement and is worth $100m annually to Getronics.

The firm has similar strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Cisco and Hewlett-Packard but according to Flynn, these have not been exploited to date in the Irish market. ‘I want to develop those relationships at a local level and grow the business,’ he told ComputerScope.

Flynn also said he plans to grow the business by developing its relationships with existing and new end-user customer sites around the country. Getronics’ Irish operation will also have access to a remote network-monitoring facility located in Milton Keynes and Flynn said he hopes to introduce this offering to Irish clients.

Getronics has close to 70 employees in Ireland, mostly in the field engineering division. The company plans to recruit some additional staff in the coming months.

Tony Flynn is the former head of the trade distributor Computer 2000’s Irish office.
